Work of The Week 15th November 2008

Congratulations Pierre

As you all know by now we decided to start doing a work of the week award which is chosen by one of your members.

The member has now chosen and this weeks work of the week goes to

Pierre for his "Aldeburgh Beach, Suffolk, Watercolour" paintings.

Some Exciting News about our members

As many of you are aware of Pierre was very busy last fortnight helping to set up an exhibition at his golf club called 'Heswall Golf Club'. This year he is exhibiting 10 original paintings and also donated a framed giclée print of his painting 'Bride & Groom - Beach Walk at Sunset' to the Club for a raffle prize. Pierre as a result of his kind generosity found himself very surprised when he was aproached by a couple and asked if he could sell them a print framed of his painting 'Bride & Groom - Beach Walk at Sunset' as their son was soon to have a 'beach wedding” and they felt it would make a lovely gift. Pierre had planned a limited edition of 50 copies of this particular painting and this was number 11 he has now sold.

I am sure like myself most of you would agree Pierre's painting would definatly be a wonderful gift for sure. Well done Pierre your hard work is certainly paying of mate. For those that may not have had the pleasure of seeing Pierre's painting.

Marilyn also had a nice stroke of luck whilst out to lunch with a work colegue when she desided to share with her, her painting of “Rocks And Leaves”. It turned out her colegued loved Marilyns painting so much that she ended up asking could she buy it. Congradulations Marilyn on another great sale of yet again another beautiful painting.

Some Exciting News for Members

On behalf of Woody Art and Things I would like to give a big congratulations to Graham (Jeffo) for a great result from his Club Exhibition he had a couple weeks back. Graham was fortunate enough to sell two of his paintings which was wonderful but he also was commissioned later to paint a couple animal portraits for a lady. Well done mate we are all very proud of you.

Grahams paintings which he sold.

Pierre's Golf Club, Heswall Golf Club on the Wirral, last year held their first ever Arts & Crafts
Exhibition of Art Works by Members, which he assisted in the setting up. This was very successful and 18 members displayed over 75 items depicting their particular art hobby. These included paintings & prints, sculpture, ceramics, photography, textile art, embroidered art, driftwood art and jewellery.

This year, named H.G.C. Art Ex'2008, they have 28 exhibitors and the exhibition was opened Friday evening with a 'Cheese and Wine' exhibition preview with over 50 members and friends attending.

The exhibition will continue through Saturday and Sunday, 9th and 10th November.

Last year Pierre showed only giclée prints, but this year he is exhibiting 10 original paintings most of which have been featured in the Display Gallery of Woody Art and Things.

Pierre has also donated a framed giclée print of his painting 'Bride & Groom - Beach Walk at
Sunset' to the Club for a raffle prize. He was later approached by a member and his wife who asked Pierre if he could supply a framed print of the scene which they intended as a gift for their daughter who had been married recently in a beach wedding!

Pierre was on duty yesturday and will be again today and will be assisting with the dismantling of the exhibition later in the evening.

Pierre we wish both you and your club every success with the exhibition mate.

Here is a display of Pierre's work at the exhibition.

Some more exciting news happening in Marilyn side of the world.

Marilyn was fortunate enough to sell yet another of her paintings at a local Christmas Bizarre.

Marilyn entered in three of her lovely works and sold the following one.

Marilyn we are all so proud of you mate. It was a beautiful painting and one many of us admired.
Well done!!!.

Voting has started for the Woody Art and Things Mascot

As many of you would know back on the 27th of September Julz and I got to thinking it would be wonderful to have a Woody Art and Things Mascot to go on all the outgoing mail and certificates won through Woody. At the time we had considered just sketching a mascot ourselves but decided it would be much nicer if one of our members were given this privilege. As a result of this a fun competition was ran to give the members of Woody Art and Things the opportunity to present their own idea of what they felt a Woody mascot should look like.

Five well respected and wonderful artists have now put forward their idea of the Woody mascot and as of yesterday the 30th of October 2008 a voting poll has been started to determine which of these wonderful mascots shell be known as the Woody Art and Things Mascot. The voting will run for one week to allow people the time to vote and a winner will be announced on the 7th of November 2008. The winner’s mascot will then be known as the Woody Art and Things Mascot from that day on.

So we ask that you show your support to these wonderful artists by voting your favourite mascot.

Woody Art And Things Mascot Continued

To answer a few question I've been asked regarding the mascot.

The first thing to know is that there is no limitation on size as I will be shrinking the mascot to fit on documents and will always work around fitting the mascot in.

The second and most important things to know is that entries will close on the 30th of October and then a poll will be set up on the 31st of October 2008 which will go for one week.

The winner of the Mascot will be announced on the 7th of November 2008.

The winners mascot will then be known as the Woody Art and Things Mascot from that day on.

Cheers Admin

Woody Art and Things Mascot

Julz and I were thinking about designing a mascot to go on all the Woody Art and Things, newsletters, general letters and certificates. We were just going to sketch something up and add it when we both got to thinking and realised that Woody Art and Things has and is largely shaped by its members so decided to invite all the members to have a go at creating the mascot they might like to see on the Woody forum. So it's a joint decision of the forum we will be putting it to a vote through a voting poll and the winner of this poll will then have the joy of seeing their mascot on all the woody letters and certificates with their id attached to it.

So if you would like to have a go and have the opportunity to have your work posted out as the mascot with your id on it then place an entrance and let’s see what happens.

This is only open to members.

Winner of the Woody Art and Things Second Challenge

The second challenge required the artist to "TO PAINT OR SKETCH SOMETHING SPECIAL FROM THERE OWN COUNTRY IN A MEDIUM OF THEIR OWN CHOICE, AND TELL THE MEMBERS ALL ABOUT IT IN A FEW WORDS"

After two weeks all those entries were then put together and a voting poll was set up for the members to chose their favorite piece.

I'd like to Congratulate Hala for her wonderful efforts on her winning piece. Which displayed the Egypt land of the Pyramids, the River Nile, Lotus Flower and Tut-anka_Amun Mask. It is a wonderful painting and a beautiful write up explaining Hala's Culture and a well deserved win.
